Welcome! I’m Stephen Ledford, founder and general contractor of Ledford Contracting Group, Inc. Our family-owned and operated construction business is built on a foundation of passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

My journey into construction began in 2001 when I met my wife, Ashley. Hoping to impress her father, a real estate professional, I eagerly pitched in on every project I could—repairs, renovations, and complete property transformations. What started as an effort to win his approval quickly became something much bigger: a genuine love for bringing new life to spaces others saw as beyond saving. By age 20, I was learning the ins and outs of real estate and property management, and at 25, I purchased my first income property. That first investment deepened my appreciation for transforming old, neglected properties into something truly special. This passion and hobby would later be very useful in my path forward.

In 2008, while building a real estate portfolio, I took my career to a new level by joining Consumers Energy, where I worked until 2017. Consumers Energy operates power plants across various platforms—biomass, natural gas, coal, and nuclear—and I was privileged to be involved in high-level operations at each of these facilities. This experience gave me extensive knowledge in industrial and electrical engineering, instrumentation, IT, and the intricacies of large-scale energy systems. Managing operations in such a demanding, high-tech environment strengthened my technical expertise and my ability to approach challenges with precision and innovation.

In time, I earned my General Contractor’s License and officially founded Ledford Contracting Group, Inc. as a way to incorporate my passions and my career. Our areas of expertise are deeply rooted in my love for history and science. This dual passion drives everything we do, from meticulously preserving historic properties to pushing the boundaries of modern construction techniques. Our unique approach blends the timeless beauty of history with the possibilities of cutting-edge technology—one foot in the past, and one in the future.
